Kerala Botanics: Changing an Amazon Brand Name Without Starting a New Listing
Amazon's catalog kept a skincare listing tied to its old brand name, Kerala Rituals, and Seller Central rejected the new name with Error 8541. Amazon's support team later confirmed by email that the brand name on the existing listing had been updated.

The brand and the problem
Kerala Botanics sells skincare rooted in Ayurvedic ingredients. Its flagship product is the Ayurvedic Vitamin C Face Oil, a one fluid ounce facial oil sold on Amazon under ASIN B0B9YR5DP8.
The brand's name changed from Kerala Rituals to kerala botanics, but Amazon's catalog still held the old name for this ASIN. When the seller data said kerala botanics, Seller Central returned Error 8541. The message begins: "The Listing data provided is different from what's already in the Amazon catalog." It then lists Amazon's catalog value for the brand as "Kerala Rituals".

June 1, 2026 (from the capture's system clock): the Brand Name field reads kerala botanics and Error 8541 reports Amazon's catalog value as Kerala Rituals. Browser and account details are cropped out.
According to the team's record, Amazon Support repeatedly treated the change as a significant rebrand and pointed to a new ASIN as the fix, and the standard delete-and-relist flat file did not overwrite the catalog value.
A support chat opened on April 16, 2026 shows the escalation. Selling Partner Support said the issue needed a specialist team and would be forwarded. The consultant asked for it to be routed to the catalog data integrity team, because the ASIN data needed a manual correction.
Goals and approach
According to the team's record, the goals were to update the brand on ASIN B0B9YR5DP8 without creating a new ASIN, to keep the listing's ratings, sales history and organic ranking, and to make the catalog data match the brand's GS1 and USPTO trademark records.
The team's record lists four steps:
- 1. Investigate the lock. A backend review of the listing, then a delete-and-relist flat file to clear the cached brand value.
- 2. Make the consolidation argument. The team argued that the old and new names belong to the same rights owner.
- 3. Escalate through Brand Registry. The case went to Amazon's catalog leadership team with the trademark certificates and GS1 records showing the client as rights owner for both names.
- 4. Ask for a manual correction. Amazon's specialist catalog team was asked to change the brand association directly.
What changed on Amazon
This before and after describes the Amazon listing. It is not a comparison of this web page with an earlier version.
- Brand attribute. Before: Kerala Rituals. After: kerala botanics.
- Store link. Before: "Visit the Kerala Rituals Store". After: "Visit the kerala botanics Store".
- Seller Central. Before: Error 8541 when the brand was set to kerala botanics (June 1, 2026). After: Amazon says the error should no longer appear once the change has propagated.

BEFORE: the detail page in a capture from late September 2025 (dated from the delivery dates in the full screenshot). The Brand row reads Kerala Rituals, with 134 ratings. The delivery location is cropped out.

AFTER: the detail page in a capture from early September 2026 (dated from the delivery dates in the full screenshot). The Brand row reads kerala botanics, with 175 ratings. The delivery country is cropped out.
Results and evidence
- Amazon confirmed the update. The Amazon Selling Partner Support email names ASIN B0B9YR5DP8 and says the brand name on it "has been updated". It adds that Error 8541 should no longer appear once the change has propagated, which Amazon says takes three hours to seven days.
- The detail page shows the new brand. The Brand row and the store link both read kerala botanics in the September 2026 capture.

Amazon Selling Partner Support email, shown at its original size. The capture carries no date, and sender details are cropped out.
What this case study does not claim: the source material has no sales, ranking, conversion or Subscribe and Save data, so we report what changed on the listing, not revenue. The date of Amazon's email is not in the capture. The after screenshot does not show the ASIN, so the two ratings counts come from two separate captures and are not a tracked history.
