If you’re an Amazon Seller struggling to get clicks on your listings, the issue might be your title. With millions of products on Amazon, your title is often the first—and sometimes only—thing shoppers read before deciding whether to click. If it’s not clear, concise, and keyword-packed, you’re leaving money on the table.
As Amazon Experts at EHP Consulting Group, we’ve worked with thousands of listings across every category imaginable. In this blog, we’ll show you exactly how to optimize your Amazon title for maximum clicks and sales.
1. Make Your Title Idiot-Proof
Your product title should make sense instantly. If a 10-year-old couldn’t tell what you’re selling by reading it alone (with no images), you’re doing it wrong.
Here’s a bad example:
Silk eye mask. Great for people who want dark night covers for gifts, traveling, yoga, and sleeping.
Now here’s a better one:
Sleep Mask for Side Sleeper – Complete Light Blocking 3D Sleep Eye Mask, Soft Breathable Eye Cover for Women, Men, Relaxation
The difference? The second title leads with the exact product name: Sleep Mask. It also highlights who it’s for, and its key benefits—important factors that drive clicks.
2. Start Strong—Front-Load Your Keywords
Your title should begin with the exact phrase your customers are searching for. Why? Because Amazon cuts off long titles, especially on mobile.
If you don’t start with your most important keyword, it might not even be visible. For example, if someone types in sleeping mask and your title begins with “Elegant Silk Fabric…”, it may never show up in their search results.
Pro Tip: Use tools like Helium 10 or Jungle Scout to identify what your customers are searching for—then put those words up front.
3. Use the Full Character Limit (But Don’t Overdo It)
Amazon typically allows up to 200 characters in a product title for most categories. Use that space wisely!
Check your current character count with LetterCount.com. Ideally, your title should be 190–200 characters to include high-volume keywords without getting truncated.
4. Avoid Duplicates in Your Title
Repeating keywords doesn’t help your SEO—it just wastes valuable space.
Check your title for duplicates with DuplicateWord.com. Aim to repeat no more than two words if necessary.
Bad:
Sleep Mask for Sleeping – Soft Sleep Mask for Sleep, Great Sleep Eye Mask
Better:
3D Sleep Eye Mask – Light Blocking, Breathable Eye Cover for Side Sleepers, Men & Women
Too many sellers duplicate words, thinking it helps with ranking. Instead, it just clutters the title and weakens your listing.
5. Spy on Top Competitors and Use Their Keywords
Want to make money on Amazon like the best sellers in your niche? Use their keywords.
Here’s how:
- Pick your top 5 competitors.
- Copy their titles into a document.
- Highlight the unique keywords they’re using that you’re not.
- Add the most relevant ones to your own title.
Don’t forget to pull your Advertising Search Term Report from Amazon Seller Central. This goldmine reveals which search terms are already converting—and should 100% go in your title.
Optimizing your Amazon title is one of the most powerful ways to boost your organic ranking, increase clicks, and drive sales. But titles are just one part of the strategy.
