SHORT ANSWER: NO (At least not as of October 2025)
Selling on Walmart can feel like navigating a maze of rules, especially when it comes to brand approval. One of the most common questions I get as a Florida Walmart consultant is:
đ Does Walmart require an authorization letter to sell other brands?
Video Explanation:
Walmart Product Approval: The Truth About Authorization Letters
Over the past year, my team at EHP Consulting Group has successfully gotten 100+ brands approved on Walmart. And hereâs the kickerâWalmart has never once asked us for an authorization letter (also called an âLOAâ).
Even with luxury brands like Louis Vuitton, Walmart approved the listings without requiring one. Shocking, right? Youâd think Walmart would be extra strict with high-end names, but instead, the approval was handled with just an invoice directly from the manufacturer.
đĄ Pro tip: Manufacturer invoices are the easiest way to get brand approval. Third-party invoices can work, but often require extra explanation.
What Walmart Actually Asks During Brand Approval
When requesting to sell restricted brands, Walmart will usually ask:
- What will you be listing? Example: Disney Plush
- What brands will you be offering? Example: Disney
- Are all items on hand? (Answer: Yes)
- Where are your suppliers located? Example: Target worked for us on Disney
- Are you an authorized reseller? (Answer: Yes)
As long as your answers are short, simple, and backed with invoices, you stand a great chance of approval.
For reference, Walmartâs Seller Help page on product and brand approval outlines their general requirements.
Does It Depend on the Walmart Rep?
Hereâs something a lot of new sellers donât realize: brand approval often depends on the rep reviewing your case.
One Walmart rep might deny your request with, âWe made a business decision,â while another might approve it instantly. Itâs not always about the documentationâitâs about who handles your ticket.
â ïž Pro tip: Donât spam Walmart with dozens of cases. Instead, open 2â3 at most, and wait. Persistence + patience usually wins.
When Walmart Might Ask for an Authorization Letter
So far, Iâve only seen sellers asked for an LOA in categories like:
- Supplements
- Beauty products
- High-risk categories (think health items)
But overall, as of now, Walmart is still much looser than Amazon when it comes to brand gating.
If youâve ever dealt with Amazon counterfeit removal or tried to stop fake products on Amazon, you know Amazon is much stricter. Walmart isnât there yetâbut it may change in the future.
Why This Matters for Walmart Sellers
Getting approved to sell one branded item on Walmart often opens the door to sell all products under that keyword.
Example: Get approval for Louis Vuitton cup â now you can sell other Louis Vuitton items too.
That means more inventory flexibility and faster growth. This is where working with a Walmart sales expert can make a huge difference.
